What makes an explanation clear?

→ Intuition

Intuition is our greatest strength, as it is the source of all our knowledge and expertise. Yet, it cannot be formally described, as it escapes the power of symbols. Building intuition through explanations is, ultimately, a form of art.

→ Structure

An explanation is clear when the ideas are put together into a robust and well-designed structure. Good structures can significantly help the human brain understand ideas that might at first be considered complex and hard to learn.

→ Minimalism

An explanation is clear when the unnecessary has been removed and when the only thing that remains is the unavoidable. It is much easier to understand an idea when its core structure has been clearly separated from the rest.

→ Experience

An explanation is clear when the person who is teaching has had deep exposure and experience with the set of ideas that is being communicated. Understanding cannot be directly injected into other people. It can be shared instead, spreading from one mind to many others.

→ Abstraction

An explanation is clear when the level of abstraction used is appropriate to the learner’s context and the teaching objectives. Too much abstraction can obscure meaning, while too little abstraction can overwhelm the student with details. An harmony between these extremes must be achieved.

Our methodology is focused on crafting clear explanations. We believe that ideas, by themselves, are not confusing. Explanations are confusing. We work to explore and construct the best explanation to help people learn faster while building deep understanding.
